Technologies - PineCone Computing Solutions

Smart. Always.

"They say a year in the Internet business is like a dog year.. equivalent to seven years in a regular person's life. In other words, it's evolving fast and faster."
Vinton Cerf
PineCone uses the latest in both client-side and server-side scripting, and fully implements AJAX principles. What this all means is that we can produce far more than simply static web pages - we are able add functionality and interaction into your sites by means of JavaScript and PHP (our preferred technologies). Cross-browser compatibility is always in mind, and we ensure that the content on your site is never entirely dependent on a technology that may not be present on the computer of the viewer of the web page.

Lock and Load

When you sign up with us, you'll receive UNLIMITED web-space for free! This means:

This sort of storage is very difficult and expensive to get hold of anywhere else, and it comes included FREE as standard with our package!

Friendly Sites

All our websites now comply with the W3 standards for Transitional XHTML, meaning that any site we design for you will work on any modern browser, and behave and perform exactly as it should. (Please note that some sites in our portfolio built before 2008 may or may not comply with this standard, but we intend to modify them for compliance as soon as possible).

Keeping Customers Content

We have several schemes in place for updating the content on your website, so that there needn't ever be invalid data on our servers. Content can be updated regularly by emailing us exactly what needs to be changed and where it is, and we'll try as hard as possible to get the changes made within 24 hours.
Clever Stuff
You tell us what you want, we write the code. All questions answered, all jargon explained. It's that simple.
For sensitive data particularly susceptible to change (such as prices, dates, etc.), we can set up a database system by which you simply fill in a secure online form, and your data is updated instantly, regardless of where you are in the word. Pretty smart!

Software and Systems

PineCone write software. But not just any software. Your software. Unlike off-the-rack software, such as Microsoft Office or Photoshop, our software is custom made just for you and your requirements. You just let us know exactly what you need it to do, and we'll make it. Better still, we write all of our software in Java, meaning that the same software will work on PC, Mac or Linux! Have a look at our Portfolio for an example.

Jargon Be Gone

Here are some words you might have come across that seem scary and confusing. But don't worry - we're here to make sure you don't feel left in the dark.

Java Not to be confused with JavaScript (which is something different altogether), this is one of the languages we use to tell computers or server exactly what to do. The programs we write for you may be Java-based. This means that they will be able to run on Windows (PC), Mac or Linux computers, as long as the free Java Runtime Environment is installed! Installing the JRE is dead easy and can be downloaded from the web. As for Mac and Linux users, you're all set, as Java comes pre-installed!
JavaScript This has 100% NOTHING to do with Java. That said, it's a pretty clever bit of technology, as it allows web pages to be more dynamic and interactive. JavaScript is used in AJAX, which means that a webpage can dynamically change its content without having to reload the page. More useful than it sounds!
HTML HyperText Markup Language - You may or may not have heard a lot about this. It is part of the very stuff from which the World Wide Web is built. This page, when it's sent to your computer, is actually just lots of code which we've written in a special language which your computer or web browser can read. It essentially 'describes' what exactly the page looks like.
CSS Cascading Style Sheet - CSS compliments the HTML technology. HTML describes what 'elements' are involved in any one webpage, and CSS describes exactly what they look like, in terms of things like colour, size and font.
PHP There are two parts to any internet connection: there's the server, and there's the client. The client, in terms of the World Wide Web, is the computer or the web browser that is looking at the web page. The server is the computer that sends the client the web page. Right now, you are the client, our server has just sent you this web page. (A server is essentially just a computer). PHP are instructions for the server, written in a language it can understand. Whenever you fill in a form online, PHP or a similar technology will usually be behind it.

We use all of the technologies listed above for the websites we design and the software we write.
